ideas of privacy, personal space, and the unity of the subject through socio-historical formations is turned into an aesthetic phenomenon with duschgedanken. the work invites residents of dieburg to hear a transformed performance of inputs, the residents themselves constituted, by their participation in stadtwerkstatt 2019.
in a post-modern time when presumed ownership of private ideas and thoughts is seen as the last refuge of a stable subject, these very thoughts also become the diffused content of contemporary media. we extend the object of the shower by creating a curtained space that abstracts the idea of the shower. where the workshop invited people to speak in order to share, a similar space this time in a gallery context invites sharing as listening. the work explores how the conceptual language of temperature colours ideas. finally, the work hints at questions of authorship by obscuring any identification of the sounds and voices used and offers up a composition that uses as its musical raw material the thoughts of dieburgers.
